Man arrested for stabbing after fight

RENO — A fight led to stabbing early Sunday evening.

At 6:25 p.m., Reno police officers responded to 401 Lake St. on the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers found the victim and the suspect. After interviewing several witnesses, police learned that the victim and suspect, identified as 42-ear-old Richard Allen Schmitz, had become involved in an argument that escalated to a physical confrontation. During the confrontation, the suspect used a knife to stab the victim in his abdomen. Based on the witnesses interviews and video that were reviewed, the suspect was taken into custody for battery with a deadly weapon.

The victim was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Schmitz was arrested and booked into the Washoe County jail.
