RENO — Wednesday afternoon at about 4:30 p.m. Washoe County Search and Rescue units located the body of a female in the designated search area for Luanne Oakes, a 57-year-old Reno resident reported missing earlier in the day.

Reno police detectives and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office units assisted the coroner in recovering the body, which had not been identified as of Friday afternoon. After the identity is determined the next of kin will be notified and the cause of death determined.

Oakes was reported missing by a friend who had not seen her for more than 24 hours. Oakes’ vehicle was found parked in a turnout in the area of Skyline and McCarran boulevards. A passing citizen reported that he might have seen Oakes hiking in the area on Monday. Oakes has hiked in the general area in the past.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Reno police dispatch at 334-COPS or Secret Witness.
