Burglary arrest in south Reno

RENO — On Wednesday at about 7:45 a.m., two male juveniles were arrested for committing a residential burglary in the area of Smithridge Drive in south Reno.

Officers were investigating a rash of recent burglaries in the area and during the investigation the two juveniles were detained as they exited a residence. The two juveniles initially fled from officers on foot but were detained after a short chase. One of the juveniles was carrying a loaded firearm, along with a knife taken from the residence. Both juveniles were booked into the Jan Evans Detention Center for burglary and carrying a concealed weapon.

Residents in the area are encouraged to take steps to prevent these types of incidents, including locking all doors and windows and ensuring all valuables are stored in a secured location. Report all suspicious activity or persons who appear to be loitering.
