RENO — This is the final week for Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful’s Christmas tree recycling program available to residents of the greater Reno-Sparks area. Tree collection will run through Jan. 17 at three community drop-off sites including Bartley Ranch Regional Park, Rancho San Rafael Regional Park and Shadow Mountain Sports Complex in Sparks.

Collection sites will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A minimum $3 donation is requested to support this program and other valuable community programs. For trees to be accepted, they must be clean and un-flocked. No commercial drop-offs will be accepted.

“By recycling cut Christmas trees, residents help preserve landfill space, reduce illegal dumping and contribute to cleaner air as fewer green trees are burned,” said Christi Cakiroglu, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful executive director. “Recycled trees are chipped into mulch, which is used year-round in park, river and open space projects to prevent weed growth, soil erosion and promote beautification.”
