Classes begin Jan. 6 and include sessions on botany, soils, landscape design, integrated pest management, turf management, irrigation and various topics related to plant health and care. The classes are held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Redfield Campus at 18600 Wedge Parkway in south Reno. Classes are scheduled to end on March 24.
The training is essential for anyone working in the nursery or landscape industries, from entry-level employee to supervisor. The classes help prepare students for Certified Landscape Technician and International Society of Arboriculture exams.
Classes are taught by staffers from University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Horticulture, Nevada Division of Agriculture and local landscaping companies. Students receive a certificate of completion, a subscription of the Horticulture Connections newsletter and a Certified Nursery Worker identification card.
The course costs $200 and the registration deadline is Jan. 4. Enrollment is limited to 50 people. Companies enrolling more than one employee may be eligible for a corporate discount.
