In addition to the Reno-Sparks-Carson City areas, NHP covers the northern third of the state, including Lovelock, Fallon, Tonopah and Lake Tahoe. Most of the calls for service occurred on Sunday. Additionally, there were several spin-outs in the Washoe Valley area Monday morning due to blowing snow and high winds.
In an incident Monday morning in Carson City, NHP Trooper Chris Austin was investigating a single-vehicle accident on southbound U.S. 395, just past the exit to North Carson Street. While he was waiting for a tow truck to remove the damaged vehicle and while sitting in his patrol vehicle, the driver of a Subaru station wagon traveling south lost control and crashed into the rear of his vehicle. Austin sustained injuries to his neck and head and was taken to Carson Tahoe Hospital. He was treated and released and will be off duty for several days recovering.
The driver of the Subaru was not injured.
