The Red Sox were out-hit 3-2 by the Tigers, but somehow found a way to win Saturday night’s Sparks City Babe Ruth Baseball main division title, 6-1.

Drawing seven walks and taking advantage of seven Tigers errors helped in the ugly win.

The Red Sox got on the board in the bottom of the first on Trevor Huston’s sacrfice fly, the only earned run the Tigers allowed. Tanner Oates made it 2-0 later in the inning on a passed ball, and the Red Sox never trailed.

The Red Sox pushed the gap to 4-0 with a pair of third-inning runs.

The Tigers tried to stay in the game. Adam Bolinbroke belted a one-out triple and scored on a Garek Tauchen RBI groundout in the fourth frame. That was all the offense they could muster.

Oates and Jake Bray combined on the three-hitter for the Red Sox. Both finished with six strikeouts, but Bray flirted with disaster after handing out five free passes.

It didn’t matter as the Red Sox tallied two more runs in the sixth on an error and Huston’s theft of home on a double steal.

•In the prep division championship, the Braves blew open a 3-3 game with a trio of runs in both the fourth and sixth innings and cruised to a 9-3 victory over the Yankees.

The Braves looked like they were going to shut down the Yankees after jumping to a 3-0 lead after two innings. However, the Yanks rallied back with a run in the top of the third and two more in the fourth to knot the contest. That’s as close as it got.
