All-league volleyball honors released
With the release of all-league honors this week, it was easy to see that Spanish Springs and Reed volleyball were the class of the High Desert League. The awards lists were full of Cougars and Raiders.
Reed, Damonte set to clash for North title
The Reed High football team is busy this week prepping for the Division I North regional championship game. It is Reed’s third invitation to the North final over the past four years. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. at the University of Nevada’s Mackay Stadium.
Cougars foursome makes college plans official
On National Signing Day, high school seniors across the United States put pen to paper and signed National Letters of Intent to the college at which they will continue their education and athletic careers. At Spanish Springs, those honors went to a group of four girls
Football coaches reflect on rematch
Last Friday’s regional football semifinal between Reed and Spanish Springs was quite the emotional roller coaster. Prior to kickoff, both teams were amped up for a rematch of cross-town rivals on a huge playoff stage. Spanish Springs raced out to a big lead only to see Reed rally from an 18-point deficit and steal the postseason victory, ending the season for the SSHS gridders.

Nearly a month after coming from behind for a victory over bitter rival UNLV and earning its bowl eligibility for an eighth straight season, the Nevada football team is still searching for its next win.
Raiders fight off upset bid by Cougars
In the blink of an eye, Spanish Springs flipped the world of rival Reed upside down. What was a slight 13-10 lead for the Raiders turned into a 31-13 advantage for the Cougars in a matter of 117 seconds. The 21-point outburst from Spanish Springs was like quickly ripping off a band-aid for the Raiders though, in comparison to the anguish and torture that the Purple and Silver would go through over the last 20 minutes of the game.
Commentary: Reseeding playoffs worth consideration
Friday night cross-town rivals Reed and Spanish Springs will meet on the gridiron with a trip to the Division I North championship game on the line. While only one will get a shot at the regional crown, this matchup should have been the possible title clash next weekend.
Munley, Loadholt excel outside
Over the past four years the Spanish Springs volleyball team has made the regional playoffs, only to fall short of a state berth. Before then, the Cougars failed to make the playoffs all together. This season though, with the help of a pair of big-swinging outside hitters leading the way, the Purple and Silver will represent the North in the Division I State Championship.
Sparks boys soccer gets set for repeat state effort
Ever since the Sparks boys soccer team hung its 2011 state championship banner in the Brickhouse, the squad has set its sights on lifting another pennant. Now, after taking the Northern Division I-A regional title, the Railroaders will get their chance to defend their state crown.
