RENO -- The Spanish Springs girls basketball team played liked a squad that was hungry for a win. The Cougars had not picked up a victory in nine days. Granted, they had only played one game in that stretch but it was an emotional 52-48 road loss to rival Bishop Manogue.

RENO -- Points have come at a premium most of the season for the McQueen Lancers. But on Tuesday night, McQueen got scoring balance and contributions from its bench en route to upsetting Spanish Springs 65-58 in a High Desert League boys prep basketball battle.

Through the first 14 minutes of the Sparks boys basketball team's home game against Fernley Tuesday night, neither side was able to create any separation. While almost the entirety of the first half did not help clarify the superior team, the final 120 seconds before halftime proved to be the deciding factor.

Desert Fox rules once again
After seeing the need for a desert motorcycle racing series, business partners Dennis Belingheri and Paul Ziegler started the Motorcycle Racing Association of Northern Nevada, or MRANN as its known. This is an umbrella group that sanctions races staged by member clubs.
