After the Spanish Springs baseball team dug itself out of a pair of four-run deficits against Galena, the Cougars watched in shock as the visitors once again jumped ahead by four late in the contest. Mixed results for local prep softball squads
The Spanish Springs Cougars wrapped up their run through the annual Victory Preseason Tournament in Sacramento with a pair of wins Saturday afternoon. Not only did the Cougars win, but they won in resounding fashion, cruising to a pair of five-inning, 10-run mercy-rule victories. The SSHS crew downed northern California schools Sutter, 11-1, and Casa Roble, 12-2.

The Reed High softball team kicked off its season with a rare tie Thursday at the Victory Preseason Tournament in Sacramento. A day later and it looks as if the tie wasn't all that rare. Reed settled for another tie Friday, playing to a 1-1 draw against Roseville in its first game of the day. Reed came back in its second tournament affair Friday to dump El Camino 6-1.
