Reed boys track second at Rotary Invitational
The Reed High boys track team showed well at its annual Rotary Invitational over the weekend. Reed finished second among 18 scoring teams. The Raiders scored 97 points, a total bested only by the 114 points of McQueen and easily better than third-place Reno's 81.

Raiders, Cougars cruise to mercy-rule victories
The Reed High baseball team's offensive prowess continued Thursday afternoon. Reed had combined for 42 runs in its two wins against North Valleys Saturday and Tuesday. The opposing uniform may have been different Thursday but it didn't cool off the Raiders offense which stayed hot, leading Reed to a 19-8 romp over Carson in a DI North League tilt on the RHS campus.

Dominant pitching propelled the Reed softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Carson at home Thursday afternoon. Reed's pitching was so good, it didn't allow a Carson run as the host Raiders picked up wins of 5-0 and 1-0.

Five SSHS male athletes sign letters of intent
Wednesday was a banner day for the Spanish Springs High School athletic department. Cougar athletic officials hosted a signing ceremony that saw 16 student-athletes announce their intentions to compete in their sport of choice beyond their prep careers.

A two-week break from competition didn't seem to slow down the Spanish Springs boys golf team. The Cougars, and the rest of their High Desert League foes, got a break from conference tournament play during the Washoe County School District's Spring Break the previous two weeks, but they were back in action Tuesday at Red Hawk Golf Club in north Sparks.

Any midseason lull the Spanish Springs softball team was suffering through a week ago -- when it was handed a lopsided loss by Reno in the Reed tournament and a frustrating home loss by Wooster -- seems to be long gone.
