As always, expectations high for Reed softball
The Reed Raiders have entrenched themselves as one of the top softball programs in the Silver State. The Raiders are coming off back-to-back state tournament appearances and there's no reason to think the RHS gang should temper enthusiasm for its upcoming spring campaign.
Reed baseball gears up for spring campaign
John Phenix is in Year Two of his second stint as the Reed baseball coach. After just more than a week of practice and one scrimmage under the Raiders' belts, Phenix is starting to see his squad take shape. So far, the veteran coach likes what he sees.
New series starts at Stead
STEAD - The newly formed MX775 group staged its initial Battle Born 150 motocross event this weekend at the fast, hilly and sometimes technical track. The races were duel events as riders also earned points in the SMRA Spring Series.

The Washoe County School District's new calendar, implemented this year with an earlier start date and later end date -- has changed the way local coaches and athletic administrators schedule practices and game times throughout their season. Local boys headline all-league squads
Last week’s state basketball tournament put the finishing touches on the 2013-14 winter season. It also signaled the start of the awards parade as coaches from around the state released their conference’s all-league awards.
Sandbox start for SMRA's spring racing season
FERNLEY - The Sierra Motocross Racing Association (SMRA) kicked off its season Sunday at the Sandbox, or the Fernley Lion's Motocross Track as its official known. The Reno chapter of the Over The Hill Gang hosted the event.
Penney led Cougars hoops to special season
The Spanish Springs boys basketball team wrapped up its winter campaign last Thursday with a loss in the state semifinals to Las Vegas power Canyon Springs. The state tournament appearance was the first in the 13-year history of the school.
