Lockwood Landfill to launch renewable energy plant
RENO — After months of construction, the Lockwood Landfill will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday to launch a renewable energy plant that will use landfill gas to generate up to 3.2 megawatts of electricity. Gas that is naturally produced as waste decomposes in the landfill will be piped to an onsite energy plant, where it will be used to power two generators.
