Indie rock/pop twins Tegan and Sara have found mainstream music success with their latest album, “The Con,” and the accidentally catchy tunes have added many fans to their already large underground fan base.

The emotionally exposed duo will play their lush lyrics and ultimately indulgent ear-candy songs Friday night at the Grand Sierra Resort.

Falling somewhere along the lines of indie, emo and just plain honest, the stylish sisters from Canada have found success at a young age. Born Tegan and Sara Quin, they recorded their first album in 1999, entitled “Under Feet Like Ours,” fresh out of high school. “The Con,” their fifth album, was released last year.

After “Under Feet Like Ours,” the duo was signed to Neil Young’s Vapor Records in 2000. Since then, their career has crossed paths with some of indie music’s most talented musicians. Tegan and Sara have worked with Rufus Wainwright, Ryan Adams, Ben Folds and former Weezer bassist Mark Sharp, who played keyboard for the girls on 2004’s “So Jealous.”

Tegan and Sara have a fresh sound that has stayed true to the girls but has evolved from album to album as the sisters have grown. The singers, songwriters and guitar players, known for their witty and sarcastic stage banter, have a moody but reflective ’80s-inspired rock sound that is often accompanied by synthesized keyboard and staccato guitar beats that have been written around their lyrics, not vice versa.

While most of their songs are short (“Walking With A Ghost” on “So Jealous” is only 2 minutes and 29 seconds long), the songs still get stuck in your head and their soft and empathetic voices make even the most emotionally exploratory content seem happy.

Lyrics like “Where do you go with your broke heart in tow/ what do you do with the left over you/ and how do you know, when to let go…” tug at the heart strings when listening to “Where Does The Good Go.” Somehow, as Tegan and Sara’s voices spill out over the smooth chords, it doesn’t feel tragic, but awkwardly right.

Tegan and Sara’s latest album, “The Con” has been meet with mainstream success.

Not making any attempt to publicize their sexual orientations, Tegan and Sara’s lyrics are introspective and explore their own shortcomings. Ultimately, they blame possible relationship perils on themselves without lashing out in anger at the other person, unlike many other indie rock bands today.

“Back In Your Head” deeply pains over the acknowledgment of hurting a significant other with behaviors not so easily changed: “When I jerk away from holding hands with you/ I know these habits hurt important parts of you/ Remember when I was sweet and unexplainable/ Nothing like this person, unlovable/ I just want back in your head/ I’m not unfaithful but I’ll stray…”

The accidentally guilty and half-hearted apologetic tune, set to upbeat, cheery chords and energetic piano, makes it easy to forgive the voices slipping out of the speakers.

Putting in the hard work to establish themselves as artists and musicians in the United States has paid off for the Canadian sisters. Tegan and Sara will grace the stage at the Coachella Music and Art Festival in Indio, Calif., at the end of April. They are also set to play the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee and the Sasquatch in Washington.

Tegan and Sara may be a blip on Reno’s radar but after Friday night, there is no reason not to know about them. The sisters will take the stage at 9 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $27.50 the day of the show. Tickets can be purchased at www.grandsierraresort.com, www.ticketmaster.com or by calling the Grand Sierra Resort box office at 1-800-648-3568.
