All the AmeriCorps National Service Programs in Nevada are being saluted, by proclamation of Gov. Brian Sandoval, during AmeriCorps Week, May 14 through 21. In conjunction with AmeriCorps Week, Nevada Volunteers, the state commission on national and community service, is recognizing five national service participants and a program director for their exemplary service to Nevada. Four of the honorees are from northern Nevada and will be presented with their awards during the swearing-in ceremony for the Nevada Conservation Corps.
Nevada’s national service programs enlisted 3,784 state residents this year to give back to their communities through intensive service programs with 430 nonprofit, governmental, educational and faith-based organizations statewide. Three AmeriCorps members and a program director in northern Nevada have risen to an extraordinary level of service and have been picked as Nevada National Service Award Honorees.
The recognition of their service will take place at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Galena Creek Regional Park in the visitor center.
