RENO — A number of volunteers young and old helped Washoe Golf Course get ready for spring by participating in this year’s Spring Volunteer Day on Saturday.
Young golfers from The First Tee of Northern Nevada and their families spent the morning planting ornamental shrubs and flowers outside the newly remodeled Shoe Bar and Grill.
Later in the day, Reno Men’s Golf Club members Ted McPhie, Joe Atencio, Dave Reed and Boies Hall teamed up with Judy Hall and Beth Shadle of the Reno Women’s Golf Club and “golfers at large” Mark Hadley and Dennis Bradley to help Director of Golf Barney Bell with a number of important seasonal projects throughout the course.
The group painted and reset 96 yardage markers, painted line markers for out-of-bounds, hazards and other areas in accordance with the rules of golf and updated hole information signs on all 18 holes.
The Reno Men’s and Women’s Golf Club also donated $870 raised during the annual Shine the Shoe Tournament to help pay for new plants and other supplies.
“On behalf of all the crew at ‘The Shoe’ I want to thank all the volunteers for their hard work on a beautiful spring day,” Bell said. “The results of their energy and elbow grease will be enjoyed by hundreds of golfers throughout the season.”
