Last week at the regular monthly meeting of the Reno Sparks New Car Dealers Association, veteran car dealer Ben Scott was honored on his retirement.

Scott had been the owner operator of Scott Motor Company, a long time family business that was started in 1929. On the occasion of his retirement he received a proclamation from the Mayor of Reno, Bob Cashell, and a plaque from his fellow car dealers at the RSNCDA.

Also present at the car dealers meeting was Governor Brian Sandoval who participated in the presentations and delivered the principle talk at the meeting.

Scott, who was very active in many civic and community endeavors during his time as franchise car dealer for Cadillac, Buick and Land Rover, said that he would be wearing Levis on a daily basis from now on.

Ryan Dolan of the Dolan auto group who is President of the RSNCDA congratulated Scott on his many years of service and his unwavering business ethics.

The wording on the Proclamation goes as follows:

“WHEREAS, The Scott Motor Company has been one of the longest lasting family owned businesses in Reno from its inception in 1929 until its closing in 2013, and

WHEREAS, during its existence it achieved the highest respect from both its customers and peers, as it always adhered to the strictest business ethics, and

WHEREAS, its operator Ben Scott served on many community and civic organizations such as the Better Business Bureau Board of Directors and the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Reno, to name just two, and

WHEREAS, the said Ben Scott was elected to be President of the Reno Sparks New Car Dealers Association where he performed his duties admirably and professionally, and

WHEREAS, Ben Scott’s avocation of flying brought great renown to the City of Reno as he won two Grand Champion trophies at the prestigious “Airventure” Show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and also by his participation in the re-creation of the original U.S. Mail Delivery system across the United States,

NOW THEREFORE, I Robert Cashell, Mayor of Reno, do hereby designate August 20, 2013 as Ben Scott Day.”

As to the plaque the wording read:

“Presented To Ben Scott – 2013

Scott Motor Company

It has been said that an individual’s greatest achievement in his professional life is the respect and admiration in which he is held by his peers. Certainly when it comes to the career of Ben Scott this has proven to be exceptionally true. In recognition of his professional excellence, community and civic endeavors and devotion to the highest standards of business ethics, he will be long remembered in the Reno community. This plaque is awarded to him by his fellow members of the RSNCDA who wish him the very best upon his retirement.”

Scott is well known as an aviator and has won several national awards and gained a lot of national exposure when he recently participated in the recreation of the first U.S. Air Mail Service in this country.
