SPARKS — After a more than a year hiatus, boat racing is coming back to Sparks with the debut of the Sparks Hydrofest event at the Sparks Marina this weekend. During this watercraft event, the dog park and fishing pier located on the south side of the park will be closed to the public until 5 p.m. Sunday. Additionally, Sparks is discouraging paddling or sailing of any kind during the event.

Originally racing at the Teglia Ponds (later re-named Paradise Ponds), the outboard hydroplanes and flat-bottomed runabouts will be churning it up at the Sparks Marina with speeds close to 100 mph. The free spectator event is sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association.

For more information go to www.apba-racing.com or www.boatracingr11.com. The Sparks Marina Park is located at 300 Howard Dr.
