CARSON CITY — The Café at Adele’s, a contemporary update on one of northern Nevada’s historic and premier dining destinations, will host a tasting on Feb. 22 featuring samples from its revamped lunch and dinner menu from its new breakfast menu. The cost to attend is $50 with 20 percent of all proceeds benefiting The Green House Project, a local nonprofit organization created to provide educational and vocational programs and a place for the community to engage in cooperative and healthy activities.

“What began as an interest in growing affordable flower baskets for downtown Carson City evolved into a nonprofit organization with a much grander purpose: to create horticultural art, to teach sustainability and gardening principles and to provide wholesome, organic produce to those in our community with limited access to it,” said Karen Abowd, president of The Green House Project.

The Green House Project aims to educate children in Carson City on the importance of sustainable living, provide fresh food free of charge to food banks and low-income families in the community and reconnect with the outdoors. The nearly 3,000-square-foot, self-sustaining facility serves as a portal for hands-on environmental education. The region’s youth now have the opportunity to grow and expand their knowledge of greenhouses, gardening and renewable energies.
