RENO — The suspect involved in a car jacking that resulted in a high-speed police pursuit through Sparks was arrested late Thursday night at La Quinta Inn in Reno, police reported Friday.

Jeramie Carlsson, 31,  was arrested after a team from Reno and Sparks police detectives and a K-9 unit followed a lead to the La Quita Inn on Villanova Drive. After spotting the suspect, Carlsson fled on foot when police attempted to stop him.

Carlsson tried to jump a fence, running toward U.S. 395 when a K-9 was deployed to detain him. He was stopped on the southbound side of the highway off ramp at Plumb Lane and taken into custody, according to police reports.

Carlsson was in possession of an amount of methamphetamine considered to be enough for him to be charged with trafficking the substance. According to the police report, he had driven a stolen 2001 Nissan Xterra SUV into the motel parking lot prior to fleeing from detectives.

The suspect was booked on charges of trafficking methamphetamine and being in the possession of a stolen vehicle as a result. He was also wanted for multiple felony charges, including car jacking, robbery, possession of a stolen property and felony eluding police.

Reno and Sparks detectives believe Carlsson may be connected to several residential burglaries in the region, according to Detective Kevin Dash of the Sparks Police Department. The joint effort by the Reno and Sparks police departments is ongoing to determine whether the burglaries are connected.

“Jeramie, we believe, is still the prime suspect,” Dash told the Daily Sparks Tribune on Thursday. “The evidence in the vehicle shows that Jeramie Carlsson is associated.”

Earlier in the week, Carlsson was involved in a high-speed chase Wednesday after detectives identified him as a suspect in a number of residential burglaries. The first car he drove was wrecked, after he failed to yield to officers’ command to stop the vehicle. He and his passengers then reportedly carjacked another vehicle, which was later abandoned in the area of the 1400 block of Vista Del Rancho Blvd.

Detectives located several firearms that had been taken from the vehicle and hidden in the apartment complex near the car.

One of the passengers, Michael Mulkey, 54, was arrested later that night and charged with felony eluding and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm. More charges may be pending.

The Truckee Meadows Community College Police Department will also be adding charges for the carjacking and robbery case from Wednesday’s incident, according to police.
