RENO — Crisis Call Center’s Survivors of Suicide Loss (SOSL) support group will be holding its 14th annual candlelight vigil this weekend, and anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide is welcome to attend the event.

The vigil will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows at 2680 E. Ninth St. in Reno. Attendees are asked to bring a photo of their loved one, which will be displayed on a table, and a candle (tapers work best). SOSL will provide drip cups for the candles.

“Crisis Call Center’s Survivors of Suicide Loss support group meets weekly, helping individuals, families and friends cope with the loss of a loved one to suicide,” a press release states. “The vigil is to show support for survivors in their losses and to remember those lives that have been cut short by suicide.”

According to the Crisis Call Center website, www.crisiscallcenter.org, SOSL support groups are held for adults and adolescents and are designed to help survivors cope with loss. The meetings are held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays at confidential locations, known only to registered members.

Goals of the support groups include providing a sense of belonging and affiliation, support and affirmation, hope, information and education as well as coping strategies and skills needed to move on in a safe and comforting environment where survivors can share their feelings, the site states. Anything discussed during the support groups is confidential.

“Crisis Call Center provides 24-hour emergency telephone crisis intervention, support, information and referral services throughout the state of Nevada,” spokesperson Jeff Simpson said in an email. “This service is provided free of charge for anyone in crisis, regardless of the nature of his or her problem, with the intention of offering callers the opportunity to discover learning and growth in their crisis.”
