RENO — At about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Reno police responded to the 3900 block of Clearacre Lane to serve a search warrant at the home of a man accused of threatening children with a gun. Detectives attempted to serve the warrant, however, the man barricaded himself inside the residence. Based upon the nature of the crime, the Reno Police Department SWAT Team responded with negotiators, who successfully talked the suspect outside where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Once inside, detectives located a suspicious object thought to be an explosive device. This resulted in the evacuation of surrounding residences. The Consolidated Bomb Squad responded to the scene and found that the object was not an explosive device.

Bradley Waetjen, 40, was arrested and charged with illegal contact with a minor child. Further charges are pending.
