SPARKS (AP) — The Nevada Republican Party’s state central committee has elected Amy Tarkanian of Clark County as the new chairwoman of the state party.

Tarkanian is the wife of former U.S. Senate candidate Danny Tarkanian and the daughter-in-law of former UNLV basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian.

She defeated southern Nevada businessman Patrick McNaught by a vote of 224-92 Saturday during a meeting in Sparks.

Tarkanian succeeds outgoing chairman Mark Amodei. The delegates picked him on Saturday to be the GOP’s formal nominee in the special congressional election Sept. 13 for the seat left vacant by Republican Dean Heller when he was appointed to the U.S. Senate.
