Nevada Opera events this week

RENO — Known for its popular Opera in Blue Jeans concert, Nevada Opera expanded its Artown participation this year to a total of nine performances. All events are offered free of charge with three shows geared toward children.  

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nevada Opera presents “The Grey Ghost of Old Spook Lane.” This is a one-hour children’s musical, written by singer and composer Anne Phillips, and has an important message about accepting people and their differences. At Sara Winnemucca School, 1349 Backer Way in Reno.

At 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nevada Opera singers will provide an opening act to the “Movies at the Park” presentation of the Marx Brothers movie “A Night of the Opera.” At Wingfield Park, W. First St. in Reno.
At 1 p.m. Saturday, “The Grey Ghost of Old Spook Lane” will be performed at Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum, 490 Center St. in Reno.

At 10 a.m. Sunday, Nevada Opera teams up with the publisher of PetFolio magazine to present Art Paws. Nevada Opera will be singing arias about animals. At McKinley Art Center, 925 Riverside Dr. in Reno.

At 7 p.m. Sunday, Nevada Opera will end their Artown performances with the ever popular Opera in Blue Jeans. Nevada Opera singers will try to entertain the Russian Prince from the Prince Orlofsky’s ball in Scene II of Johann Straus II’s comic opera “Die Fledermaus.” There will be songs from other operas as well as some Broadway favorites. Food and beverages will be available from Silver Peak Brewery, or bring your own. Note that glass containers are not allowed in Wingfield Park.
