CARSON CITY — Nevada’s elections chief is joining calls for the state Supreme Court to clarify whether it really wants a flawed initiative about a Las Vegas Strip sports arena to be put before voters in November.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that documents filed by the state attorney general’s office on behalf of Secretary of State Ross Miller point to confusion about the court’s June 19 ruling.

Justices called a ballot description supporting the measure “deceptive and materially misleading.”

But they also refused to ban the measure from the ballot.

The Arena Initiative Committee measure is backed by Caesars Entertainment and opposed by Taxpayers for the Protection of Nevada Jobs. It would fund the arena with a nearly 1 percent sales tax in a three-mile zone surrounding the Strip.
