RENO — SPCA of Northern Nevada celebrated its one-year anniversary Saturday in its new facility, the Stanley James Walker Pet Care & Adoption Facility. An open house was held with free ice cream and tours, giving the community a chance to see the improvements pets have been given by the new facility.
In our first year of operation at the new facility, the local SPCA has rescued 1,559 animals — a 37 percent increase over the previous year. A total of 1,427 animals were adopted out, a 38 percent increase. The organization had an increase in cat adoptions of 45 percent and dog adoptions of 33 percent.
Since the SPCA was founded in 1998 it has have saved and found forever loving homes for more than 17,000 dogs and cats. The SPCA is open every day of the week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is located at 4950 Spectrum Blvd. in Reno, just off the Parr/Dandini Exit on U.S. 395.
