RENO, Nev. — Trevor Bauer struck out nine and dealt a quality start for the Aces Wednesday night, but Fresno pushed across an unearned run in the eighth inning to escape with a 4-3 victory over Reno in the series opener at Aces Ballpark.

Reno took a quick 1-0 lead in the first, but Fresno tied the game in the third and went ahead 3-1 in the fifth. In the seventh, Tyler Kuhn scored on an error, and Adam Eaton rapped an RBI double to left, tying the score at 3-3. But the Grizzlies quickly answered, scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth and tacking on an insurance run in the ninth to earn the series-opening victory.

Bauer took a no decision, allowing three runs on five hits over seven frames. The loss fell to Matt Gorgen (1-2), who surrendered the go-ahead unearned run in the eighth.

Fresno reliever Dan Otero (5-4) earned the win, despite surrendering two unearned runs. Jean Machi worked a spotless ninth for the save. Grizzlies starter Boof Bonser took a no decision, scattering a run on two hits through five innings of work.

At the dish for Reno, Josh Bell homered for the third-straight game with a solo shot in the first. Mike Jacobs singled, doubled and drew a pair of walks.

The Aces and Grizzlies get back at it again tonight. Right-hander Joe Martinez (10-10, 5.54 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Fresno counters with LHP Wilmin Rodriguez (4-4, 5.91 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and it’ll be another Coors Light Thirsty Thursday™ presented by ESPN Radio 94.5 FM and Reno News & Review.
