RENO — The U.S. Forest Service plans prescribed burns in the Dog Valley area northwest of Reno to reduce fuel loads.

The agency says about 150 acres are targeted for underbrush removal, and hand crews and engines will be on site to monitor the fires.

Agency officials say the burns will be conducted over the coming weeks as weather allows.

They also advise that residents can expect to see smoke and may encounter some travel delays in the area when the burns occur.
