Fight report turns to murder in Verdi incident

VERDI — The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division is investigating a homicide in Verdi, which was reported in the late evening hours Tuesday.

At 10:39 p.m., Washoe County dispatch received a 911 domestic disturbance call from a residence in the 600 block of Canal Street. The reporting party advised that the dispute was between him and his roommate. Deputies were immediately dispatched to the home.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the reporting party, who identified himself as Walter Bulkeley, 45 of Reno, who told deputies his roommate, 48-year-old Mark Harker, was inside the residence. Deputies responded to the front door and found a white male adult lying on the floor unresponsive, with an apparent gunshot wound. The white male adult was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives interviewed Bulkeley and subsequently placed him under arrest for murder.
