RENO — At about 7:22 p.m. Friday, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover crash on eastbound Interstate 80 west of Reno, approximately 1 mile east of the California-Nevada state line. The preliminary crash investigation details indicate that a blue 1999 BMW M3 two-door sedan was traveling eastbound in the number two or right travel lane. The vehicle was driven by 63-year-old Cecilio Delacruz and his wife, 61-year-old Evelyn Delacruz, was the passenger. Both are from Fairfield, Calif.

Evidence near the crash scene indicated that the right rear tire failed and resulted in a blow out. Mr. Delacruz lost control of the vehicle as it entered a broadside skid and the BMW traveled toward the center dirt median area. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its wheels. No other vehicles were involved. Although both occupants were restrained and remained inside the vehicle, Mr. Delacruz escaped injury while his wife was pronounced dead at the scene.  

Public safety personnel temporarily closed the left lane near the crash scene to stage emergency vehicles. Both eastbound lanes were intermittently closed while troopers took measurements of the crash scene and identified skid marks and other crash investigation evidence. The eastbound lanes were completely opened at about 10:25 p.m.
