It didn’t start pretty for coach Frank Sandomenico and his Cougars volleyball team Tuesday night but Spanish Springs swept aside Truckee, 28-26, 25-22, 25-20 on the road to improve to 7-2 on the season.

“It started out shaky but we got a lot better as the game went along,” Sandomenico said.

Senior middles Madison McCusker and Gabby Szachara were dominant for the Cougars. McCusker racked up 10 kills and two blocks while Szachara chipped in nine kills and a block of her own.

Starting the game flat, Sandomenico was pleased his defense and serving improved as the night went on.

Senior libero Brandi Brucato finished with 11 digs and two aces. Senior outside hitter Kate Castro turned in arguably the most polished performance of the night tallying nine digs, nine kills and four aces.

After starting its season in Las Vegas just a few days ago, Sandomenico said his team is still working out the kinks.

“We still have to get everyone on the same page,” he said. “That will take time.”

Senior standout setter and outside hitter Hannah Meadows led the team passing out 23 assists.

The Cougars’ next test is Thursday at Reno.
