For anyone who loves wine and cheese, beer and cheese, or just isn’t sure on which is the better pair, Great Basin Brewery is hosting its inaugural Beer vs. Wine & Cheese Tasting Fundraiser Nov. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m.

“This is a partner event between the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, where people can taste different beers with cheese and different wine with cheese and vote on which is the better pair,” said Jocelyn Lantrip, the director of marketing and public relations for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

This fundraiser is a fun way to get people to come out and support their local Food Bank as well as the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation, a non-profit organization.

“It’s important because it is going to raise money to help us feed people. Every dollar we are able to raise can provide three meals for people,” said Lantrip.

Tickets are $35 in advance or $45 at the door. There will be raffle tickets and a silent auction. Attendees will receive a raffle ticket for every two items of nonperishable food items brought to the event for the Food Bank.

Winners of the raffle have a chance of winning: two season pass tickets to the Reno Air Races, a $100 gift certificate to Reef Sushi and Sake located in downtown Reno, a $350 photography package just in time for the holidays, golf packages, and various other gift certificates.

This is a brand new event that both organizations thought would be fun to try something different to help them raise money.

“We are really excited about this event. We want to find out if people like the beer and cheese or wine and cheese pairing more,” said Candee Candler, the director of marketing and special events for Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation.

Having a new event like this one, no one knows what to expect as far as the turnout or how much money will be raised. A goal has been set to raise about $10,000 and each organization is in hopes of reaching that goal.
