The American Lung Association in Nevada and Silver Legacy Resort Casino presents the annual Fight For Air “vertical road race” to raise awareness and funds for clean air and lung health. The 45 teams formed so far have raised $33,961 toward their $50,000 goal, so it is shaping up to be another successful event but more help is needed.
Get in on the fun and adventure of climbing all 36 flights of stairs at Silver Legacy — northern Nevada’s tallest building — with a team of three or more to help reach this worthy goal. There are lots of great prizes for top finisher, top fundraiser and more.
The event begins at 9 a.m. April 15 at the corner of Fourth and Sierra streets. Climbing begins promptly at 10 a.m. Registration for the climb is $25 and participants are asked to commit to raising an additional $75. Prizes and awards will be awarded to the fastest participants and the top fundraisers. Proceeds raised from this event help support community based lung health programs such as Teens Against Tobacco Use and Open Airways for Schools.
New this year is special challenges for all participants. The “Fight like a Firefighter Challenge” is your chance to compete with local firefighter heroes while wearing an additional 30 pounds of weight. The “Tough Enough for Two Challenge” is for participants who opt to scale the 36 floors and promptly return to the start line and ascend a second time. Top finishers for both challenges win a $100 gift certificate from Reno Running Company, $100 gift certificate for Western Village Steakhouse and other surprises.
The top fundraiser wins a $100 gift certificate from Reno Running Company. There are medals and sports bottles for fastest finishers (male and female) in all age divisions.
