RENO (AP) — Three college administrators have emerged as finalists in the search for a new president at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Regents have selected finalists interim UNR President Marc Johnson; Wright State University Provost Steven Angle; and Rachel Toni Algaze Croson of the University of Texas at Dallas. They were unanimously chosen by a search committee Thursday.

The Board of Regents presidential search committee will interview the finalists on April 18 before choosing a nominee.

“We are looking for a visionary leader to guide the University to the next echelon of quality and national visibility. These candidates bring strong academic, research and administrative experience, and we appreciate their interest in this vitally important role,” said James Dean Leavitt, member of the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents’ Presidential Search Committee this week. Johnson has been running UNR for the past year following the death of Milton Glick.

The finalists will participate in a series of campus forums April 13, 16 and 17 to allow faculty, staff, students and the community to meet them and provide input into the process.

Johnson was named Interim President by Chancellor Dan Klaich following the sudden death of President Milt Glick on April 16, 2011.

The UNR president reports to the chancellor. who holds a non-voting, ex-officio membership seat on the Board of Regents.

As president, the chosen finalist will be responsible for academic and outreach programs and related support services, such as faculty development and tenure, academic budgeting and curricular planning. The university’s academic units, including the colleges, schools and extended studies are also part of the job.

As Interim President, Johnson developed UNR’s Strategic Pan, which provides an operational blueprint through 2015 and incorporates input from people and divisions from throughout UNR, according to the university.
