An 80-year-old Sparks man was reportedly endangered and missing at about 2 p.m. Wednesday by Sparks Police after his caregiver reported him missing from the Veterans Administration Hospital.
August Prechel, a 5-foot, 6-inch-tall man in a wheelchair, was thought to have been possibly endangered after his caregiver failed to locate him in the lobby of the downtown facility, according to sparks Police Lt. Erick Thomas.
“There was no reason to suspect foul play at this time, however due to Pretchel’s age and medical condition there is concern for his welfare,” Thomas said.
Pretchel was thought to be suffering from dementia. He was only wearing jeans and a grey jacket at the time.
Surprisingly however, by noon Thursday, Sparks Police reported that the veteran who was wheelchair bound and thought to have trouble with dementia was found safely at his own home in Sparks.
“He was found at home,” Thomas said at 12:30 p.m. Thursday “He’s fine.”
Thomas did not say how Pretchel was able to make it home.
