She plans to graduate in spring of 2014 and will continue her education at University of Nevada Reno (UNR) in the fall of 2014. While at UNR she will work towards a master’s degree in speech pathology with a minor in art. She has participated in a student group show at TMCC titled “Origins and Bones.” She has also had a solo show at Elizabeth Strum Library on the TMCC campus, as well as participated in a Student art show at TMCC. Alexis is currently working on a metamorphosis theme. The subject is a female transforming to a phoenix. Changing from ashes and rising from painful situations, such as destruction of society, the shame of rape, addiction of meth or a death of a child. This series speaks to the heart of her. The subjects are things her family, friends or what she has endured. They with faith in themselves or a higher purpose have rose from the ashes of their old selves to be new beautiful, stronger version. By expressing real issues, she hopes to bring up the thought reality is horrible and hard, and the things people view as beauty and find comfort in, is actually mystical, such as “god” or the phoenix.
